Anoush'ella : A Lebanese Lunch

Although it is a brisk 34 degrees out (feels like 22 with wind chill!), I decided to take a short walk during my lunch break today to try out the relatively new Anoush'ella.

This gem opened up earlier this year and I hadn't had the chance to try their menu until today. The restaurant is Eastern Mediterranean with a focus on Lebanese cuisine, and while I can't say that I'm the most familiar with Lebanese food, who doesn't love a good hummus?

The restaurant sits right on the corner of a beautiful park in South Boston, which would be a great place to sit and enjoy a m'anoush wrap or grain bowl once the weather warms back up in the spring. The inside is light-filled and energetic with the kitchen dead-center, highlighting the beautiful saj griddles where the m'anoush flatbreads are cooked fresh.

My choice today was the anoush'ella kofta wrap made with hummus, spiced lamb and beef kofta, mint, pomegranate, onion, tahini, parsley, and their special zhouk sauce.

The wrap is definitely something that I would consider to be small but mighty: the kofta was flavorful and the m'anoush bread was warm and deliciously chewy. I would describe it almost like a thin naan bread - it has the same slightly chewy texture with some crispier spots and great flavor. The fresh mint and slightly spicy zhouk sauce were exciting additions to what would otherwise be a standard Mediterranean wrap, and only two of many topping choices to choose from. I loved biting into the wrap to find a bright burst of sweetness from the pomegranate, and the added crunch was a welcome addition to the creamy hummus spread.

And while I normally try to avoid raw red onion, the onions were paired with sumac and the bright citrus notes in the spice cut down on the harshness of the onion. The choices seemed endless and everything looked equally appetizing, so Anoush'ella can definitely count on me returning for many more lunches in the future!
