Parish Cafe : The Bravas
Last night I had the pleasure to meet up with a few friends at a South End favorite, Parish Cafe. If you haven't been, it is a great bar and restaurant, known for it's mug club and menu consisting of gourmet sandwiches created by local Boston area chefs. A few names you'll see on the menu, you ask? Jamie Bisonette of Toro/Coppa/Little Donkey, Tiffani Faison of Sweet Cheeks/Tiger Mama/Top Chef fame, and Jason Bond of Bondir, to name a few. There's even a sandwich created by Michael Scelfo of Alden & Harlow - maybe I should check that out next! (Psst - have you looked at my Boston wish list yet?)
My dinner of choice last night was 'The Bravas' sandwich, created by Cassie Piuma of Sarma Restaurant in Somerville, MA. Chef Piuma was a 2017 Finalist for the Best Chef Northeast James Beard Award and is known for her seasonal and unique Mediterranean fare, although I have yet to dine at her actual restaurant. Earlier this month, it was announced on their Instagram page that they would be adding a sandwich to the menu at Parish and I immediately knew I had to give it a try. The description of the sandwich read "Sesame torta bun grilled with a sweet onion butter and topped with prosciutto, chorizo and manchego cheese. Finished with crispy brussels sprouts, garlic aioli, chopped cilantro and hot sauce."
I mean, really? I love every single ingredient on that list! If you missed my Instagram story, check out this deliciousness:
I can now confirm that it was every bit as good as it sounds! The prosciutto and manchego cheese gave the sandwich a great salty bite, while the creamy aioli and sweet onion butter helped keep everything cool with the spicy chorizo and dash of hot sauce. Not to mention, crispy brussels sprouts could be added to anything and it would make me happy.
Overall I think the sandwich leaned towards the too-salty side of the spectrum, but I would definitely order it again the next time some friends invite me out. And you can bet that Sarma has jumped way up on my wish list because I am dying to try more of Chef Piuma's creations!

Tasty Tidbit : the long-standing favorite juice bar for Bostonians, Jugos, is adding a new location right across the street! They have signage up already, but I peeked into the window and it is still under construction. Can't wait to give this new location a try!
